ROLE AR Developer · UX Researcher · UI/UX Designer PROJECT TYPE Conceptual Design SOFTWARE Figma Adobe Illustrator Adobe After Effects Lens Studio Students at NYU’s Makerspace often struggle to recall the correct procedures for operating specialized machinery. Because these tools require precise steps, uncertainty during use can increase the risk of injury and equipment damage. This project explored how augmented reality could support students with contextual, in-the-moment guidance while working with equipment. Through secondary research, including SWOT and competitive analyses, and interviews with Makerspace users, I identified key pain points in how students currently learn and reference machine instructions. These insights informed persona development and user flows, which guided the design of wireframes and interactive prototypes. The concept was iteratively refined through usability testing to ensure the experience was intuitive and practical within the Makerspace environment. The final concept is an AR-powered instructional manual that overlays step-by-step visual guidance directly onto machinery through short, contextual animations. By presenting instructions directly where the task happens instead of in static manuals, the system helps students operate equipment more safely and confidently while reducing reliance on memory during critical moments of use.
